The Sun-Baked Spirit Glenmorangie Bacalta, the eighth addition to the award-winning Private Edition series, is an exploration of bespoke cask maturation. Director of Whisky Creation, Dr. Bill Lumsden, sought to create the ultimate Madeira-finished whisky. To achieve this, American oak casks were heavily toasted and seasoned with Malmsey wine—the sweetest and most prized of the Madeira wines—while baking in the sun on the island of Madeira.
A Meticulous Journey After being sun-baked and seasoned, the casks were emptied and shipped to the Scottish Highlands to be filled with specially selected Glenmorangie spirit that had already spent years maturing in ex-bourbon barrels. The resulting extra-maturation process imparts layers of complex, radiant sweetness to the distillery’s signature floral and fruity house style.

Nose: Fragrant and honeyed. Notes of ripe apricots, mead, and a curious mineral note are followed by sweet white chocolate.
