The Mastery of Natural Color The Macallan Edition No. 5 is the fifth release in the famous annual Edition Series. This expression is a tribute to the diversity and complexity of natural color—one of the Six Pillars of The Macallan. Unlike many whiskies that use caramel coloring, every drop of Macallan derives its hue solely from the oak casks in which it matures. To celebrate this, The Macallan partnered with Pantone to create “The Macallan Edition Purple,” a bold and enigmatic shade specifically developed for this release.

100% American Oak Maturation For Edition No. 5, the Whisky Mastery Team hand-selected only American oak casks, primarily chosen for their ability to deliver a specific spectrum of color and a wonderfully full flavor profile. The precise cask combination includes:

37% Hogsheads: For depth and structure.
33% Barrels: Adding layers of sweet vanilla and citrus.
30% Butts: Providing a rich, creamy texture.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Highly aromatic and sweet. Notes of vanilla and toffee merge with oak spices, nutmeg, and ginger, finished with hints of lemon basil and fresh pear.
Palate: Fresh and sweet on the tongue. Buttery caramel moves into succulent poached peaches and ripe pear, followed by a light toffee sweetness and background oak spices.
Finish: Long, sweet, and lingering with a delicate touch of spice.
